At COUNTRY Financial, our Commercial Loss Control Representatives partner directly with our clients to help prevent losses and the associated impact losses have on their business. You will play a big part in administering our various loss control programs. A large portion of your job is reviewing inspections completed by a vendor to identify risk and communicate recommendations that our clients can use to improve the success of their business. You will also help our business partners by responding to their questions. You will research various nationally recognized codes and standards for application to a specific operation to assist in our risk selection process. You may also be assigned a small territory to complete in person inspections and you will be asked to complete virtual inspections of our client’s properties. You must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills when working with COUNTRY Financial clients and agents. You can have a large impact on the success of our client’s business through safety consultation services and technical support. Your role includes identifying exposures with significant loss potential, investigations of cause/effect of major losses and hazard/safety management programs.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule and is based out of our corporate office in Bloomington, IL.

How does a Commercial Loss Control Representative make an impact?

  • Performs Loss Control inspection activities by line of business as assigned. Inspections requested may include, commercial and/or personal lines accounts (both new and existing) as requested, to obtain underwriting information and provide hazard control techniques(s) to improve underwriting results. Completes survey report, provides concise underwriting information, submits written recommendations to control/eliminate identified hazards, evaluates loss history to assist in safety program development/enhancement, state overall impression of account, and establishes resurvey date.
  • Reviews with the policyholder and financial representative, all hazard control techniques(s) recommended, supplying rational for the control or elimination of the hazard. Recommendations may be communicated orally with the insured and financial representative; however, written documentation should follow to the insured, financial representative and underwriting.
  • Works independently, and as part of a team, to identify and provide recommendations based on statistical and analytical research to improve current policies and procedures. Collects and analyzes loss data for commercial and/or personal lines losses and creates annual reports for management.
  • Trains underwriters and claims in all regions on Loss Control related topics and unusual underwriting topics (overnight travel to regional offices is required to complete this responsibility).
  • Provides technical and underwriting eligibility information to district underwriters, Home Office underwriters, agents and insureds. Assists underwriting, when requested, in risk selection and property appraisal.

Do you have what we’re looking for?

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of risk management principles associated with various commercial and agriculture operations.
  • Working knowledge of building and safety related codes and standards (ex: NFPA and OSHA)
  • Insurance knowledge or experience would be a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • FAA Remote pilot license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive an automobile.
  • Must have the physical dexterity to walk, reach, climb and crawl to inspect properties.
  • This is an intermediate level professional role, which typically requires 2+ years of relevant experience. This can also be filled as a senior level professional role, which typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience.
